San Diego Secretarybird

Ink, watercolor, gouache, and spray paint of a Secretarybird on a San Diego, California map featuring the neighborhoods of North Park, Hill Crest, and Mission Valley.

I love playing with various mediums and this map encapsulates several of them. I used a fountain pen to draw the bird, used an airbrush loaded with ink to create an atmosphere around the bird, and then colored it with watercolor and gouache. To add an extra element, I cut out a pattern with a razor blade to create a template for spray painting triangles onto the lower feathers.

Measures approximately 8x11"
